Cafe de Flore

Amazon Price $14.99

Café De Flore: Rendez-Vous a Saint-Germain-des-Pres (July 2002) This album is most important because it introduced me to Paris Combo (see below) in their popular track Seor. It’s an interesting mix of jazzy music past to present including diverse and surprising tracks from Diane Krall, Eartha Kitt, Bridget Bardot and Nina Simone. This album has something for everyone. I saw that there is a Café de Flore: Vol. II out, with again a surprising mix of past and present, but I haven’t bought it yet.
Playful is not the first adjective that comes to mind when I think about Paris, but it aptly describes the music of Paris Combo. This quintet (yes, from Paris, but the band members hail from all over the globe) play with and fuse many different musical influences into a delightful mélange that defies classification. The closest analogy I can think of is the varied musical choices of Manhattan Transfer. There are very few albums that I listen to in their entirety and all the Paris Combo albums fall into this select category. I only wish I had a better grasp of French so I could understand the lyrics (just translating the words don’t work with music), but you don’t have to understand the words to enjoy this music.  They tour all over the world including the US twelve times, but unfortunately not near where I live in the South.

Paris Combo

Amazon Price $13.98

Paris Combo (1997). This first eponymous record came out in 1997 and has set the stage for growing recognition and success. To me this is album songs are high energy and truly an interesting blend of many world influences.

Living Room

Amazon Price $13.98

Living Room (1999). This is by far my favorite of their albums from the catch Senor that I first heard on Café Flore to the catchy Terrien d'Eau Douce and Mobil'homme to the sort of haunting Sous La Lune. This album has something for everyone.

Attraction

Amazon Price $17.98

Attraction (2001). This album is good to listen to while working as it doesn't seem to be too slow or too fast, but just right.

Paris Combo Live

Amazon Price $14.99

Paris Combo Live (2002). I don't have this double album, but I'm sure it's just as good as the four studio albums

Motifs

Amazon Price $14.99

Motifs (2004). This newest album seems to be the most Parisian to me and the song Etoile Pâle has a 60s lounge feel to it.
